News from Betterstimulus - October 2024

Dear subscribers,

October was a quite busy month for me - business-wise as well as in family matters 🥵 ... but a lot that has been finished waits to be unpacked, let's go 👇

Betterstimulus

Big changes are coming to the Stimulus knowledge base! I've published the Betterstimulus Cookbook, a growing assortment of Stimulus controllers extracted from apps I develop and maintain. Catered to Rails apps, you can just copy a Rails app template URL (a la RailsBytes) which installs any controller in your application.

Plus, 2024 will see more perks for Hotwire Club subscribers!

New Hotwire Club Challenges

I've published two new challenges for the Hotwire Club:

Turbo Frames - Markdown Preview: Typeahead previews of markdown by simple Turbo Frame rerendering

Stimulus - Video Progress Tracker with LocalStorage: Store ephemeral user state like video playback progress in localStorage

Remember that you can now purchase individual solutions on Patreon!

Power Pack for Bullet Train

I finally finished the first iteration of inline editing for Bullet Train applications and published an explainer video. You can watch it here: https://julianrubisch.gumroad.com/l/btpp

Free Tool for Harvest Users Incoming

I'm currently scratching my own itch by building a weekly budgeting add-on for Harvest called Crow's Nest. The TLDR is that it helps me keep an eye on all the weekly time-boxes I assign for my client work and monitor my progress.

If you use Harvest for your freelancing endeavors and want to try it out, give me a shout! Here's a screenshot to pique your interest:

Quite a mouthful, huh? I hope there's been something in there for you ✌️

Julian

You probably know me from one of my open source endeavors (StimulusReflex, CableReady, TurboBoost) or one of the info products I built.

But apart from this, I’m a freelance Ruby on Rails consultant with a focus on simplicity, aesthetics and code quality. I especially know Reactive Rails technologies like Hotwire (Turbo, Stimulus) inside out and can help you transition to a brighter future with less tech debt and more flexibility.

I’ve got the following offerings for you:
